Notch coding “Prelude of the Chambered”. Part 1 of the live programming stream from Ludum Dare #21

Brainstorming starts at 10:06, coding at 21:40. Apologies for the ads[1].

These are the first three hours of the stream, the rest can be found on twitch.tv (see below)

Notch brainstorms, then designs the game engine. The architecture is lean but powerful, as one can see later on when he creates the game itself with minimal code.

He uses Eclipse’s debugger to modify the engine while it is running, allowing a very short feedback loop. Good stuff.

You can find the sequels on twitch.tv:

The video has a lower resolution than the original stream, but this is the best one I could find at the time. The text is blurry but still readable in 720p.

This had been uploaded as “Notch part 1.ogv” to MegaUpload, but lost for obvious reasons.

A downloadable version can be found at http://depositfiles.com/files/nq3t05mz0 . The key to extract it is “TragredurrGrepamir”.

If you were download it rather than watching it here, it would be kind of you to like the videos (if only for the stats).

[1] There’s a lot of copyrighted stuff in the music Notch listened to while coding.
