President Obama has committed 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan. This decision raises serious questions about troops, costs, overall mission, and exit strategy. Historically, it has been Congress’ duty to ask questions in the form of oversight hearings that challenge policymakers, examine military spending, and educate the public. After witnessing the absence of oversight regarding the Iraq war, we must insist Congress hold hearings on Afghanistan.
Watch the first part from our full-length documentary that will serve as a driving force to help make oversight hearings a reality. Sign the petition urging oversight and tell us what questions you would ask.

• President Obama sent 17,000 more troops into Afghanistan to secure the county, but will this really accomplish anything? Half of Afghanistan is rural, but the means that it will be impossible to security the country with this number of troops.
• Given the size of the population and the poor state of the infrastructure, there would need to be 1 combat force for every 40 Afghanistan, totaling over 250,000 troops in all, to secure the country.
• Afghanis were successful in resisting both the English and the Soviets; in fact, 500,000 Soviet troops couldn’t contain the Afghani resistance.
• Afghans don’t want American troops there; a 2009 poll found that only 47% of Afghanis have a favorable view of The U.S.
• In 2002, when there was fewer troops and more development programs, security was better.
• If we look at troop levels between 2002 and 2007, we can see that increasing the number of troops results in more civilian deaths. This will increase support for the Taliban .
